Ukraine using AI to identify Enemies during the War
Ukraine took the help of AI : Enemies being identified by US search engine ; Photos of 20 million Russian citizens are in the database
Ukraine has started using AI (Artificial Intelligence) to identify the face of its enemies during the war. To identify Russian attackers, Ukraine is taking the help of an American company Clearview AI’s facial recognition search engine. With this technique, civilians and soldiers killed in war can be identified separately.
Clearview CEO Hon Ton-Thato told that the Defense Ministry of Ukraine has been using our technology since last Saturday. Hon said- We have a total of more than 1 crore photos in our database. In this, more than 20 lakh photos have been submitted from social media contacts (VKontakte). Our technology is effective in identifying the face even in case of loss of face and it is easier than finger print matching.

Clearview’s technology is being used to reunite refugees with their families, identify Russian spies and expose fake social media posts related to the war. The company’s advisor Lee Wolowolki said – the special thing is that Ukraine will not have to pay for the use of Clearview ai’s search engine. We have made it available to him for free. With this technology, the Ukrainian force will be able to identify the friend and enemy at the point itself.
However, Ukraine’s Defense Ministry has not yet responded to the claim. Ipahal Pahal, a spokesman for Ukraine’s Ministry of Digital Transformation, said that they are looking into proposals from US based AI companies such as Clearview.
Critics of technology are also present, speaking – one mistake can give death to someone
On the other hand, Albert Fox, CEO of the Surveillance Technology Oversight Project in New York, says that one mistake can lead to the death of a civilian. He said that Clearview should never be used as a definitive source of identification.
When you include such technology, you have no control over how you use it and misuse it.
Company accused of infringement of privacy
It should be noted that Clearview spending technology primarily saves only US Law Enforcement Agencies. The company is also being sued in America for infringement of privacy rights. Imman has been accused of stealing photos from the internet without permission.
Clearview argues that it collects the same data as Google Search. Nevertheless, it has been deemed legally illegal by several countries in the interest of Britain and Australia.
