Meta’s New Social Network ‘Threads’ Set to Challenge Twitter, Launching July 6

Meta is poised to introduce its new social network, “Threads,” which will directly challenge Twitter’s dominance. The platform is scheduled to launch on July 6 and is now available for pre-order on the App Store for iOS devices. By pre-ordering, users ensure that the app will automatically download once Meta initiates the launch. The Android version of the app is also listed on the Google Play Store.
Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, confirmed the release date through a post on the IG Updates Instagram broadcast channel. In his message, Mosseri expressed his anticipation for the launch of “Threads,” a text app designed to cultivate an open and respectful environment for conversations. Although there is still work to be done, he eagerly awaits user feedback.
Threads is expected to gain rapid traction due to its integration with Instagram’s existing account system, enabling the seamless transfer of personal information from each Instagram user. With Instagram boasting over 2 billion active monthly users, Threads has the potential to quickly surpass Twitter’s user base of approximately 350 million worldwide.
The timing of Threads’ launch is significant given Twitter’s current challenges. Daily tweet views have been restricted, even for paying users, owing to concerns raised by Elon Musk regarding excessive data scraping and system manipulation. Furthermore, TweetDeck users are encountering difficulties accessing the service. Concurrently, Twitter is rolling out a new version of TweetDeck that will require a subscription to Twitter Blue for usage.
