The new device is called the Razr Fold, although it doesn’t resemble the classic Razr flip phone the brand was once known for. Motorola has not yet shared many technical details and says additional information, including pricing and launch timing, will be announced later.
The phone was previewed during Lenovo’s CES keynote, where the company also highlighted new laptops, desktops, concept hardware, and smart glasses. While CES typically doesn’t center on smartphones, Motorola is among the few manufacturers unveiling new handsets this year as companies across the industry try to show how they’re adapting to the AI era.
With the Razr Fold, Motorola enters a foldable segment already occupied by competitors such as Samsung, which has begun releasing devices with multiple folding sections.
Motorola says the Razr Fold features a 6.6-inch external screen that opens into an 8.1-inch internal display, slightly larger than many current U.S. models. The Android phone includes three 50-megapixel rear cameras, a 32-megapixel front-facing camera, and a 20-megapixel inner display camera designed mainly for video calling.
The company also plans to offer an optional stylus for note-taking, distinguishing the device from phones like Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Google’s Pixel 10 Pro Fold.
The Razr Fold will incorporate Qira, a new AI system meant to unify Lenovo and Motorola experiences under one digital assistant, bringing together earlier AI efforts from both brands.
Motorola also displayed a concept wearable AI device called Project Maxwell, equipped with a camera and designed for tasks such as real-time translation, contextual assistance based on what the user is seeing or hearing, and automatic photo capture for journaling. The device is still experimental and also uses the Qira platform.
The company noted that battery life remains one of the biggest engineering challenges for such AI wearables. Several design concepts were shown, including tortoiseshell, pearlescent, and fabric finishes.
More AI-powered wearable devices are expected over the next few years as companies search for the right form factor to appeal to mainstream consumers.
