How Float Therapy Helps People Relax

What is float therapy?

You may have heard of float therapy as a type of relaxation. If you don’t know what it is, float therapy is a type of activity where you lay in a tank of water. The water isn’t just plain water; it’s saturated with Epsom salt, and because of how salty the water is, your body floats naturally. Another aspect of float therapy is that it takes place in a dark room. The location of float therapy matters because your senses shouldn’t be stimulated during the treatment. Too often in our society, we’re overstimulated with different things such as our screens and constant attention to social media. Float therapy offers you the opportunity to genuinely relax. After all, you can’t take your phone in the water.

Sensory isolation

You may have heard the term sensory overload. That’s when you are overwhelmed by the people and things around you. Your senses can’t seem to focus, and you don’t know which way to turn. When you’re in a float tank, your senses are isolated. You’re experiencing being submerged in water, and your mind completely relaxes. You don’t have to worry about what you’re going to make for dinner or the problems in life because all you can do is focus on what’s in front of you. It can be a part of the treatment for many different mental health conditions because a lot of times, people that have anxiety or PTSD are hypervigilant and are constantly focused on what’s around them or potential threats. When you remove the senses, that sensory isolation can be a relief to those who have anxiety disorders. It takes the pressure off of the mind and can release tension in the body too.

Anxiety and float therapy

If you live with anxiety, you might have some of the following symptoms:

  • Focusing problems
  • Racing heart
  • Shortness of breath
  • Shaking
  • GI issues
  • Nervousness
  • Sweating
  • Social anxiety

Anxiety can be debilitating to the point where it’s hard to function in your daily life, but there are many things you can do to help yourself if you have it. One of those things is float therapy. There have been studies that indicate that float therapy can be advantageous for those with anxiety because it reduces stress. There was a study where 50 people participated in float therapy and it indicated that 47 out of those 50 individuals found that their float therapy sessions decreased their anxiety levels, so if you’re interested in float therapy, know that there are clinical studies to back it up. Float therapy can truly relax people, and in fact, after your float, an area of your brain called the amygdala where you experience fight or flight shuts down and your anxiety gets reduced as a result.

Getting treatment for your mental health matters

It’s crucial to take care of your mental health. Part of that is seeking activities that help you feel better. Float therapy is one of the ways that you can supplement your mental health treatment plan. It’s important to speak to a mental health professional if you’re experiencing any mental health concerns including anxiety, depression, PTSD, or other conditions. You can speak to someone online or in your local area. There are plenty of different options for finding a licensed mental health professional on the internet. One excellent and well-known therapy company is BetterHelp, where the providers truly care about your mental health concerns. Don’t be afraid to reach out for the help that you need, and know that float therapy can be an option for you while you work on your mental health.

Keep customers first

No matter the product or service that you offer, it is crucial that you put the customer first if you want to make sure that your reputation does not suffer. Businesses that fail to listen to their customers will ultimately see sales drop, and could even lose valuable custom. If you want to see your business performance improve, then check in that your customer service is first class. If you would not do business with your firm, then chances are prospective clients will not be interested either.

If you want to use a few quick fixes to improve your business performance, then be sure to consider which areas of your firm will benefit from investment. Keep your workforce feeling motivated and valued to ensure that you still obtain positive business outputs and be sure to always keep the customer first, so that you continue to have a strong balance sheet.
