In this article, you’ll learn how to use Microsoft Edge Immersive Reader and customize your reading experience. Options include useful tools like text size, read aloud, and grammar correction.

 

How To Enable Immersive Reader In Microsoft Edge

Enabling (as well as disabling) Immersive Reader is an easy task. Just follow the steps below to set up and run the feature.

 

Open Microsoft Edge.

Navigate to a website you want to read with Immersive Reader. Click Enter Immersive Reader in the address bar. You can also use this feature by tapping F9 on your keyboard while Microsoft Edge is open.

Note: You may have to use the Fn + F9 keyboard shortcut to access Immersive Reader.  

Enter Immersive Reader

You will enter the immersive reading mode, which removes any possible clutter from the website and provides a clean and easy to read page. You can still view images, interact with links, and return to the normal view of the website at any time.  

To disable Immersive Reader, simply click the Exit Immersive Reader icon, or once again use the F9 key. This will reload the website to display the original page.

Immersive Reader is currently only available for a limited number of web pages. If you don’t see the button in your address bar, the page doesn’t yet support immersive reader.

 

How To Customize Immersive Reader In Microsoft Edge

Once you enter immersive reading mode, you will be able to customize how the text is displayed to further enhance your experience.

 

Click the Text Preferences on the Immersive Reader toolbar.Reduce or increase the size of the text with the Text Size slider. Simply click and drag with your cursor to adjust the value.

The Text Spacing toggle allows you to increase the space between each letter on the page. This can be useful if you have difficulty reading dense paragraphs. Select text spacing Choose a theme in the Page Themes section to modify the text and background color of an immersive reading page. For more color scheme options, click the More Themes dropdown menu. Microsoft Edge automatically saves your text preferences, making it easy to read any compatible page the way you want.

 

How to use Grammar Tools for Immersive Reader in Microsoft Edge

Grammar tools in Microsoft Edge help you better understand a page. Simply click the Grammar Tools to open the dropdown menu, then select any of the desired options, such as Highlight Syllables or Parts of Speech. Highlight colors can also be customized for your own needs; just like the text preferences, this too is saved automatically.

 

 

How to use Read Aloud for Immersive Reader in Microsoft Edge

If you want Microsoft Edge’s built-in reader to read a web page aloud, just enter Immersive Reader. This is where you can access the function.

 

First, customize your settings in the Reading Preferences dropdown menu. You can toggle features like line focus and image dictionary to further enhance your experience. Once you’ve finished customizing your reader, click the Read Aloud button on the toolbar.

Use the toolbar controls to pause the reader, skip to the next paragraph, or return to the beginning of a paragraph. Click on the Speech Options to change the speed of the narrator or choose a different voice from the available options. If none of the voices appeal to you, click the Learn to add more voices link.
