Levi’s to Test AI-Generated Clothing Models

Levi’s has announced that it will begin experimenting with AI-generated clothing models in partnership with Lalaland.ai, a digital fashion studio that creates realistic AI-generated fashion models, later this year. The denim brand plans to diversify its online shopping experience by supplementing its current single clothing model with AI-generated models that are more body-inclusive.

The new models will allow customers to view what an article of clothing would look like on a range of models spanning different body types, sizes, ages, and skin tones. Levi’s has claimed that using AI-generated models to promote diversity is more sustainable but did not explain how.

There is also the question of how many real models could be impacted by the experiment, as Levi’s has laid off hundreds of employees in recent years to cut costs. In its press release, the company stated that it sees AI-generated models as “supplementing human models” rather than replacing them.

While the move has been welcomed by some, it also raises questions about the future of human models and their role in the fashion industry. Levi’s has stated that AI-generated models will not replace real models but will be used to supplement them.
