Meat Made of Thin Air

You must have heard many times people say that nothing gets made in the air. Now sir, something else may or may not be made, but at least meat can be made in air (Meat Made of Thin Air). Don’t be surprised, it is 100% true that researchers have now claimed to have made a meat substitute using proteins present in the air. Not only this, food start up Air Protein has also launched it in the market.

It sounds like a science fiction movie, but it is absolutely true that a start up named Air Protein has launched a project to make meat through air using very advanced technology. The co-founder of this company, Dr. Lisa Dyson is an award winning physicist and she has come with this company to develop meat substitutes. This discovery, which looks very unimaginable, has now been placed in front of the world.

Air Protein Means Meat Made From Air

Hearing this seemingly impossible project, you must be wanting to try it. In fact, this new alternative to meat is made purely by extracting protein from the air. In this project, CO2 i.e. carbon dioxide is converted into amino acids through some microbes and what they get is protein powder. Meatless products are made using this unique powder or flour. According to Dr Lisa, the flour that is prepared may be made from CO2 but it is carbon negative i.e. completely safe to eat.

Inspired By Nasa’s Research

He took inspiration from the technology of Air Protein from the research done by the space agency NASA in the 1960s. In this research, NASA was looking for ways by which the astronauts could prepare their own ration in the air. NASA discovered these microbes, which are called Hydrogentrophs. When it is brought in contact with co2 under the right conditions, an amino acid is formed. The company has prepared a completely different product from this thinking of NASA. This process is accomplished in a large and tall tank. After fermentation, they get a new product. Dyson claims that this meat will be much cheaper and more sustainable than other meat alternatives.
