Microsoft is gearing up for a significant update to Windows 11 slated for February 2024, introducing a range of innovative features. Dubbed as the “Moment 5” or commonly referred to as the “February 24 Update” for Windows 11, this release will also align the OS with the requirements of the Digital Markets Law (DMA).

Insights into the Windows 11 Moment 5 Update

Similar to previous updates, Moment 5 will be deployed as a comprehensive patch via Windows Update, anticipated to be incorporated into the March 2024 Patch Tuesday distribution (after a preliminary optional preview in late February).

It’s worth noting that these updates aren’t indefinitely optional; if not manually installed, Windows Update will automatically initiate the Moment 5 update. This update is exclusive to Windows 11 23H2 users and marks the concluding update of its type for 2023. The subsequent significant system update, known as Hudson Valley, is slated for a January 2024 debut.

Key features set to roll out with Moment 5 include enhanced pen input integration directly into OS text fields, streamlining interactions with such devices. Users can also explore third-party providers like Google or Yahoo to integrate plugins into the Windows search panel, facilitating swift transitions between search engines. Furthermore, the update will permit users to uninstall select system applications, including Microsoft Edge, Cortana, Camera, and Photos.

Enhancements are also in the pipeline for the Nearby Sharing system, Quick Settings panel tweaks, and augmented Copilot capabilities. Additionally, users will have the flexibility to deactivate Microsoft News in the Widget Board, paving the way for third-party news service integrations.

On the application front, Moment 5 promises enhancements for the Notepad and expedited launches for the Microsoft Store, potentially introducing a novel “Arcade” tab for instantaneous gameplay without downloads.

Rounding off the update, Windows 365 integration with Windows 11 will see refinements, empowering organizations to personalize the login interface with their branding. Moreover, accessibility enhancements will cater to multiple monitor setups and introduce voice shortcuts for tailored commands.
