PayPal Introduces PassKey Authentication for Android Users

PayPal has announced that Android device users will soon be able to access their accounts via PassKey, a security system that is already available on iOS. PassKey is an industry standard developed by the FIDO Alliance and the World Wide Web Consortium, and it uses digital means such as biometric sensors to replace cryptographic passwords. This allows users to log in to their PayPal accounts in a simple and secure manner, with protection against phishing.
To create a PassKey for their PayPal account on an Android device, users must first log in to PayPal using their existing credentials in Google Chrome. If the option to create a PassKey appears, the user will be asked to authenticate in the same way they normally use to unlock their device, automatically creating the PassKey. Once created, the user can use the same authentication method to log in to their PayPal account on the same device.
This feature will be initially available to PayPal users in the United States, with wider availability in other markets expected in the coming months. PassKey is supported by technology giants such as Google, Apple, and Microsoft, and its adoption by PayPal is expected to enhance the security and convenience of PayPal transactions for Android device users.
