Playables: Google prepares games to be played on Youtube

Google has openly acknowledged its strong interest in the online gaming sector in recent years. However, their previous endeavor, Stadia, fell short of the search giant’s expectations, underscoring their belief in the sector’s potential. In line with this, The Wall Street Journal has reported that Google is now preparing to make another foray into online gaming, with YouTube being the chosen platform in their pursuit to captivate gaming enthusiasts.

In particular, YouTube‘s team of developers would be internally testing “Playables”, that is, a product designed to allow users to experience online games. Apparently, Playables will allow users to access various titles, both from the web client and in YouTube applications, affecting computers and mobile devices.

According to the information available, there are several games available, but only one is described, Stack Bounce, an arcade title in which players try to destroy layers of bricks with a ball. And indeed it appears to be one of the games in the GameSnacks series, a platform designed by the Mountain View giant’s team with the aim of making HTML5 games more accessible for smartphones on any network. At the moment, it’s not clear whether Google wants to play these games in HTML5 via YouTube, but it appears that its aim is to find new areas of growth after a slowdown in advertising spending.

A Google spokesperson, when asked about Playables, limited himself to stating that games have long been one of YouTube’s interests and its team of programmers is always experimenting with new features, adding however that at the moment there is no news to announce.
