During the conference call that served to present the Meta group’s financial results, CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that Threads, his latest social network, now has more than 130 million monthly active users. This is the company’s platform that arrived to compete with X, previously known as Twitter.

According to information from Zuckerberg, the social network is experiencing “constant” growth. “Threads has more active users today than at the height of its original launch,” he explained, suggesting that the app is on its way to significant success.

The entire Meta family of apps, which also includes Facebook, Instagram, Messenger and WhatsApp, was used by 3.19 billion daily users in the fourth quarter of 2023, up from 3.14 billion at the end of the third quarter. Monthly active users rose to 3.98 billion, slightly above the 3.96 billion in the previous quarter, according to an excerpt from the quarterly numbers. Meta had total sales of $40.1 billion last quarter and profits totaled $14.02 billion.

We must not forget: companies are never friends. Especially Facebook & Co., Threads will also have to be used as a money printing machine at some point. And if you look at the pervasive “trash” advertising on Instagram and Facebook, you might come to the conclusion that this social network is less fun… if you haven’t lost interest in social media, something that has been happening.
