Vegan Diet Consumption Gaining Popularity In Britain

Vegan consumption is increasing every year in the UK. Now the British are abstaining from eating a large number of non-vegetarian as well as milk products. To take this campaign forward, the people of England are taking the Annual Veganry Challenge every year in January. The British do not use milk, curd, cooking  oil along with meat, fish, chicken in this one month. Vegan food is also proving helpful in fighting cancer, diabetes and obesity.

The people of Britain started taking part in this challenge from January 2014, after which 6 lakh people have become vegan by 2021. The vegan population has increased by 400% since 2014. At the same time, since 2020, the number of restaurants serving vegan food in the UK has doubled. About 12,000 restaurants, including McDonald’s, are serving vegan food online. The Vegan Movement was started in Britain by the British Vegetarian Society in 1944.

 

What is Vegan Food?

Vegan food is such a diet, in which people do not use milk products along with eating non-vegetarian food. Only vegetarian vegetables are eaten in this diet. People who follow this type of diet are called Vegans. Some people take a vegan diet to protect the environment, while some to prevent violence against animals.

Helpful against global warming

According to British media reports, by the end of this month two million people will accept the challenge of being vegan, then their number will reach 8 million. It has the largest number of students and youth. Research from Oxford University states that if a person goes vegan, he can reduce his carbon footprint by 73%.

Not only this, if a person becomes vegan for a month, then he also saves 1.26 lakh litres of water used in meat and dairy production. According to research, if every person in the world becomes vegan, then 70% of carbon emissions can be stopped. With this, the problem of global warming and climate change can be overcome to a great extent.
