European Commission Takes Action to Regulate TikTok and Protect User Privacy”

The European Commission has banned the installation of the TikTok application on all of its team’s work devices, in order to protect the institution’s data. And of course, the social network criticized this decision. Civil servants and EU executive officials have been asked to uninstall TikTok from their work devices by March 15th. The measure was defended by the institution’s IT department in order to protect the Commission’s data and reinforce its cybersecurity.
The European Commission has also asked its employees to uninstall the TikTok app from their personal devices, including phones, when they have official apps installed on them, including email and video conferencing apps.
“We are disappointed with this decision, which we believe to be wrong and based on misconceptions,” reacted a TikTok spokesperson of the ban by the European Commission.
TikTok, whose parent company ByteDance is Chinese, has come under increasing scrutiny from Westerners in recent months over fears about China’s access to user data. The American administration banned the application on federal government devices, and some US lawmakers are trying to ban the social network that is still operating in the United States.
