Twitter Introduces New API Subscription Offers: Free and Paid Plans with Limits on Usage

Twitter has updated its API terms of use, and has recently unveiled three subscription offers. The free subscription is designed for testing purposes and allows accounts to post up to 1500 tweets per month, but lacks access to certain features. However, this could be a relief for some of Twitter’s bot accounts, as it limits them to an average of 50 tweets per day.

For those requiring more queries, there is a Basic subscription which costs $100 per month and allows users to publish up to 3000 tweets per month and up to 50,000 tweets per month at the application level. However, this subscription has a reading limit of 10,000 tweets per month, a significant reduction from previous allowances.

Twitter’s third subscription option is Enterprise, which offers higher limits but details are not yet available to the public. Twitter has stated that this subscription will provide “commercial-grade access that meets your specific needs for each customer.”

While researchers and academics who rely on Twitter’s API for their work may be affected by the new terms, Twitter has stated that they are exploring alternative ways to support this community.

Overall, the new API subscription offers provide developers with more options for their projects, while allowing Twitter to generate revenue through its paid plans. The subscriptions and free API offer are currently available on Twitter’s website.
