Learn how to enable HDR in Windows 11
If your gaming PC supports a 4K display, enabling high dynamic range (HDR) output is crucial if you really want to enhance your visual experience. Monitors with this capability offer a wider, more vivid spectrum of colors, effectively utilizing the additional pixels found on higher resolution monitors.
However, it is important to note that it can only be fully utilized if your game supports it. Fortunately, Windows 11, which is now available for download and installation, solves this problem by introducing Auto HDR.
This feature improves color gamut and brightness levels for thousands of DirectX 11 and 12 games that do not have native HDR support. With Auto HDR, you can enjoy a more immersive and visually stunning gaming experience, even in games that weren’t originally designed for it.
But how to enable HDR in Windows 11?
1 – Press the Windows key to open the Start menu and select Settings to access Windows settings.
2- In the Settings menu, find and click on System and select Display.
3- Choose your HDR screen from the available options.
From the View menu, take a moment to find and choose the connected monitor from the list. After that, just scroll down until you see the Use HDR option. It is important to note that if your monitor does not support it, this feature may not be accessible.
4- In your monitor’s display settings, find the Use HDR option and enable it.
5- You can also enable automatic HDR for older video games.
While most major PC games in 2023 are already supported by default, many older titles based on DirectX 11 and DirectX 12 may not be supported. By enabling the functions revealed above, your older games will have a brighter image and more vibrant colors, giving them a new visual boost.
