Microsoft prepares to add new features to Windows 11

Thanks to the latest Windows 11 developer builds, we’ve had confirmation that Microsoft is working on a redesign of File Explorer, with new suggestions and new navigation options. After the introduction of tabs with Windows 11 22H2 last year, File Explorer hasn’t seen any new features added, but we could see significant changes in the future.

As already reported a few days ago, the presence of more and more suggestions within the system seems to be a prerogative of Windows 11. Looking at developer build 25276, we can see that File Explorer has seen the addition of a new Gallery option in the left column, while two new tabs, Activity and Conversations, appeared in the details column.

As you can see from the screenshots here, the Activity tab will show a history of all the changes made to the selected file, while Conversations will show all the emails and messages that that file was a part of. Another small change, this time aesthetic, concerns the edges of the various windows that would be slightly more rounded.

Being a developer’s build, we don’t know when everything will be available in stable Windows 11 builds, nor if these new options will actually see the light of day for all users.
