Social Network Mastodon grows significantly after the acquisition of Twitter by Elon Musk

The acquisition of the social network Twitter by Elon Musk seems to have been beneficial for the social network Mastodon, since since the day of acquisition the platform has grown from 350 thousand to 2.5 million users, and we are talking about a period between October and November.

The announcement was made by Eugen Rochko, founder and head of Mastodon, who announced the 2.5 million users of the centralized social network. He also commented on recent actions taken by Twitter, such as blocking (temporary) connections to competing social networks, banning several journalists (which ended up being reactivated) and even the banning of Mastodon’s own account, which ended up being reactivated.

“This is a stark reminder that centralized platforms can impose arbitrary and unfair limits on what you can and cannot say while holding your social graph hostage.” said Eugen Rocha.

Although Mastodon managed to increase the number of users by eight in the space of a month, it is worth noting that the group remains a far cry from its competitors, including Twitter. Mastodon goes from 350 thousand to 2.5 million users in just one month

At last count, the social network controlled by Elon Musk had 238 million users. Eugen Rochko, however, seems confident in the future of his service. “Knowing that freedom of the press is absolutely essential to a functioning democracy, we are delighted to see Mastodon become a household name in newsrooms around the world and are committed to continuing to improve our software to meet the new challenges that arise with rapid growth and increasing demand”.
