Sony Launches New Generation Playstation VR2 Headset

Sony Launches New Generation Playstation VR2 Headset

After years of waiting, Sony has finally presented the second generation of its virtual reality viewer, PlayStation VR2, compatible with the new PlayStation 5 console.

The original PSVR was released for the PlayStation 4, and it was presented as a different way to play the game; However, since the arrival of the PS5, the question was whether Sony was going to continue betting on virtual reality, and how the power of the new console was going to be used.

Now we have the answer to some of those questions, with a new PSVR2 that only has the black and white color scheme in common with its predecessor; but if we look closely, we will see the PlayStation logo spread all over the device. It is a smaller and lighter viewer, which has also received several technical improvements and new options such as a lens adjustment, which will allow us to adjust the viewer to the position of our eyes.

The resolution of the device is 4K, and it supports HDR to show games with greater realism and image quality. It supports 90Hz and 120Hz refresh rates, which is especially important in VR to make sure the experience is smooth and stutter-free. The field of vision is 110 degrees, and the device is capable of recording the movement of our eyes, and is even capable of vibrating to make us feel the effects of the game on our skin thanks to a built-in motor, which has been achieved despite size reduction.

In an attempt to eliminate the inconvenience associated with virtual reality, Sony has not only lightened the viewfinder, but also integrated ventilation in the form of slots through which hot air will escape and thus we will not suffocate; it is a design inspired by the PlayStation 5 itself, according to Sony.

In the same way, the new controllers have been designed to resemble the viewfinder although, for the moment, Sony has not wanted to expand on its novelties; it has only indicated that it is more intuitive.

The complete system will only need one cable connected to the console, simplifying the process. At the moment, we don’t know when it will hit the market, but it could very well be this year, considering that some video game developers have already received a development kit that will allow them to explore the possibilities of the new system.
