YouTube Introduces Support Chatbot for Recovering Hacked Channels

Recovering a hacked social media account can be a daunting and stressful process, especially if the account generates income. YouTube is addressing this issue with the introduction of a new support chatbot.

According to a post on YouTube‘s support site, “The new support assistant will guide affected creators through the process of securing their login and recovering their account as the first step after a hack.” Creators who qualify will find the option to troubleshoot a hacked channel in the YouTube Help Center.

To use the bot, visit the YouTube Help Center and click the “Chat with our hacked channel assistant” button.

The bot functions similarly to other support bots, asking questions and providing predefined answers. However, Google cautions that “Google AI is still learning and may produce inaccurate or offensive results.”

It appears that a wide range of users can access the bot, as I was able to test it even without an active YouTube presence. While I couldn’t proceed far since my account wasn’t hacked, the bot seemed to operate as intended.

As outlined in YouTube’s Help Center, the bot begins by attempting to recover the hacked Google account linked to the channel. Once that step is complete, it assists with reverting any unwanted changes and advises the user on enhancing account security.

Currently, the bot is only available in English and can be accessed through the English version of the Help Center. YouTube notes that certain troubleshooting features are only available to specific creators for now, but the company plans to roll out the feature to all creators eventually.
