Microsoft unveils renewed file explorer for Windows 11

Microsoft has been working on a revamp of Windows 11’s File Explorer for a long time. This desired modernization has already been glimpsed, but it revealed itself a little more on the sidelines of the introduction of the Windows Copilot personal assistant in Windows 11.
An introductory video gives an overview of the direction taken, even if there’s no specific announcement about a new file explorer. Remember that since the arrival of Windows 11, this central element of the interface is entitled to native support for tabs. The revamped design features an address bar and search bar to the right of the navigation buttons, positioned closer to the tabs. The various action-related tools for files and folders have been moved down.
Aside from some aesthetic changes for better overall consistency with the operating system’s interface, quick access looks set to disappear on the home page with recommended files, pinned or favorite files, as well as recent files.
With proper indications, document recommendations can be made based on the recent addition of a comment, a recent modification or meeting, or even a download that just occurred. A priori, Microsoft should push the integration of OneDrive and Microsoft 365 even further.
As expected with Windows 11 (Insider Preview) builds, a photo gallery has been integrated into File Explorer. For its operation, the display of photos will be done in the form of the Microsoft Photos application. Microsoft would also have committed to revising the details panel of this explorer to enrich it. The redesign would be based on the WinUI 3 library and optimized for mouse and touch.
