Android 14 Beta 1 now available for download

Owners of compatible smartphones can now be brave, because Google has released what is the first beta version of Android 14, after having released some Developer Preview versions. For Google, these releases were primarily about accessibility, autonomy, and security.
Fonts can be enlarged (200 percent instead of the previous 130 percent), and smarter scaling makes text easier to read. According to Google, it’s easier for developers to set preferred languages for applications, and they can better target people who speak specific languages.
This allows developers to use the Grammar Inflection API to more easily add support for users who speak languages in that grammatical gender, providing a more personalized and natural user experience for those languages.
Google talks about recent work on large screen layouts and guidelines to make it easier to optimize applications for different formats with any version of Android. Android 14 Beta 1 also includes internal improvements to get the most out of your battery and display. There are tighter controls for alarms and foreground tasks to reduce power consumption.
Beta is available first for Pixel devices starting with the Pixel 4a. There is still no official support for non-Google phones. Previously, Android 14 was available as a less stable version for developers, experienced users had to manually flash it, and Pixel owners can now also register their device in the beta via Google’s official page.
